Christmas!

Yes. This is how desperately behind I am. Christmas was almost two weeks ago! I've been itching to blog! I have oodles of pictures and lots to say. Alas, the third perfect ingredient of TIME is missing. (Let me tell ya - ever since we moved farther away from work and started carpooling, errand-running and chore-doing time is at a premium.)

Christmas was low-key this year. We leisurely woke up, laid in bed and watched Home Alone. The perfect start :) Conveniently, since Christmas Eve was on a Saturday (which means I didn't have to work!), I was able to do LOTS of food prep work that day. Desserts, casseroles, and Christmas Danish were all primed and ready. That, my friends, is a Christmas miracle.

Jessie, who's usually cranky (but present...yes kitten, I know you'll read this) was in Virginia with her husband this year. So it was just me, Dan and his parents for the festivities. We opened presents, brunched, skyped with various loved ones, etc. You know, the regular.

And because I know you all care SO MUCH about my Christmas morning...proceed to pictures!

Dan, getting ready to open his gift from his Immel Secret Santa (my dad)

What WHAT?! A Binford Tools clock for his workshop :)

My John Elway shirt! This is, obviously, the back. The front is the old logo, before they made it all sleek and modern.

Haha! I love this picture! All three of us got new gloves/mittens!

Dan bought me bar stools for the kitchen. But instead of wrapping the GINORMOUS box, he made me this mini stool to represent them :) So handy!

Dan's mom, talking to Jessie on skype, actually using the stool. If I hear her say she feels like she's gained weight ONE MORE TIME...(just kidding...we all have our comfortable weight, I understand that)

Showing a skype Jessie the lanterns that Dan's mom carefully had placed in the tree. I should've taken a picture. It was pure Pottery Barn charm. (And I mean that literally - she took the idea from a P.B. catelog.)

Me and Dan, on skype with my 'rents :)

And now, because I'm childish and love gifts, here are my Christmas presents! (Disclaimer: I'm always a little embarrassed at how many gifts me and Dan get for each other. We talked about it this year and decided that once we have kids, that will change, so we better live it up with just the two of us while we can! Hooray for selfishness! Just kidding, of course.)

The bar stools! Much sturdier than the model :)

Dan's thoughtfulness - I'm always having to go into his workshop to get screwdrivers, measuring tape, etc. So he put together this little indoor toolbox for me :) All the go-to tools that I need for simple projects! And I can access it inside the warm house!

My traditional Christmas chocolates from Dan :) Aaaand, the Mike & Ikes are from myself. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

Our old plastic spatula was getting burned and melted on the end. (I think, as a result of Dan trying to use it to dig spilled, burning food out of the stove coils in our apartment.) I've used it a few times, and boy is she a dandy!

SA-WEEET! Amanda got me this JFK magnet at The Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas! (It's one of my lifetime goals to go there.) And yes, I consider the bag as part of the gift.

Amanda was my Immel Secret Santa. On top of the magnet, she got me some Starbucks coffee and this new travel mug! The mug is AMAZING! My coffee is still hot at 10:30am!

A stocking stuffer from Dan's mom :) I love the fancy little cover on this Kitchen Lemon handsoap. Charming!

Amanda for the win! Smartwool running socks! They have a high back ankle to prevent blistering!

I'd asked Dan to reserve The Hunger Games for me from the library so I could read it between Christmas and New Years. It was taking FOREVER for it to come in and kept saying things like, "Wow. It must be really popular" and "Maybe a lot of people had my same idea to read between Christmas and New Years?" And Dan kept going along with it and saying, "Yeaah...Maaaaybe." Then, in a surprise move, I opened up this box set :) I'm about 3/4 of the way through the first book and I'm loving it!

:( Sad story. Dan got me this Gaslight Anthem t-shirt, which I love. But weirdly, this medium is SKIN TIGHT on me. (When usually a medium fits comfortably.) I looked for an XL on their website, but they don't sell them. I perused the other merchandise and didn't find anything that really appealed. So I'm going to have to return it :( Oh well...hopefully we'll see them in concert sometime and I can get something there!

The front of my Elway shirt :) Rockin' it Old Skool.

Back

HA! So, Dorr's "slogan" is "Positively Dorr!" It's written on signs through town and is SUPER cheezy. Me and Dan make fun of it. A lot. So, in a genius move, I had a t-shirt like this made for each of us. We love them!

Laugh if you will, but this was one of my favorite gifts. We've been using office binder clips on our chip and snack bags for YEARS. I don't know why I've never just bought such a practical thing for myself. But boy was I excited to open these bad boys! There's even a bread clip!

Okay, so I picked this out myself and Dan bought it while I was with him. But it was like, mid-November, so I pretty much forgot how much I loved it. You can't really tell, but it's corduroy. From Eddie Bauer - love it!

My mother-in-law got these mitten for me a the Farmer's Market! They're made out of old sweaters and are lined with super soft fleece. They are SO cute!! (This is the inside - the palm side.)

The top :) Love 'em!

Wilco coffee and Wilco coffee mug from Dan. Good call, babe! :)

I've been on a throw pillow kick. Updating and sprucing of the house comes in waves for me. The wave I'm currently riding is the throw pillow wave. Dan's mom got me this super cute vintage-looking Pottery Barn Christmas accent pillow :)

This is the back - it's called the "Post Card" pillow. I love envelope pillows to begin with, and the vintage-y look of this made me love it even more!

Now...remember this pillow. It comes into play in the next post.

The picture after this and this one should've been switched. Hm. No matter. This is a close-up of the pretty binding on this Pottery Barn pillow from Dan's mom. She got it for me to "start my collection." (As you'll see in the next post...it really got the ball rolling!)

Full shot of the pillow. It's a really soft linen with a down insert. I LOVE it! (She's an 18", so pretty huge.)

So...on that note, more later! (And more pictures, too! Remember the pillow!)
