I haven't updated in a while and the guilt of that was getting me down...so I decided to end my blogspot absence. (Well...that and my boss is gone today and I'm about to pass out from boredom.)
First things first: Becca had her baby!!!! I'm flying out in two weeks to reunite with the girls and spend a weekend adoring sweet Connor!
Things are moving along swiftly in our neck of the woods. This weekend is my sis-in-law's wedding shower that I'm 95% responsible for. I'm looking forward to it, but at the same time will be relieved when it's over. I love to plan, but I let it stress me out. The details are together and I think it's going to be better and cuter than I'd hoped!
Before the rain let up a few weeks ago I went into the backyard to snap some peek-sas. Here's our back woods, or The Forbidden Forest. I love how it starts thin and gets thicker, just like in H.P.!
This is a testament to how rainy it's been. Between the melting snow and constant rain, this was our neighbors' flooded backyard. Thankfully, we no longer have lakefront property and everything's drying out and greening up!
Jolting change of subject. This was my mom's mother's day gift. I was pretty proud of it. (Thank you Etsy, for saving my life with your creative minds and quick shipping.) It's a little mama sparrow with her next of three eggs :) ...and in case you can't tell, it's a necklace.
So a few nights ago I helped Dan lay down the epoxy flooring in the third stall of the garage. Woooooow. That stuff is some kind of powerful. It smelled like walking through a cloud of spray paint on steroids. We had the side window open and the big garage door open to help the situation. But despite Dan's careful planning, a surprise thunderstorm popped up and forced us to close the garage door. I'm 99% sure it was unhealthy and we shouldn't have been in a room that toxic with such little ventilation. Dan was making some pretty funny jokes and I kept wondering if they were really funny, or if it was just the fumes talking. Anyhow, we finally finished and realized we'd left the side window open. This resulted in me jumping from dry spot to dry spot, feeling like a I was dodging alarm lasers, stealing a valuable piece of museum art. I have pictures of us putting the floor down, but not with me. So for now...this is what it is...
The southerner in me wants to plant this magnolia tree outside my bedroom window. And the do-er in me is making it happen. If not this spring, the next. I think this is one of the prettiest kind of trees I've ever seen. (Sorry, dogwoods.)
So me and Dan never went on a honeymoon. We got married and made a beeline back to MI so Dan could go back to work. We've always said we'd plan a big trip, for just the two of us. Not to visit family, not taking family with us...just us. So I've been toying around with idea. My DREAM vacation is an all-inclusive trip to Glacier National Park and includes food, transportation, hiking, rafting, tours of the park, etc. But...it's $1,975/person and doesn't include airfare (which would be expensive because it's to a small airport in the middle of nowhere). Sooooo...the realist in me is exploring a few more feasible options.
Last night we decided to make it a goal to take our trip for our 5th anniversary which will be July 2012. (Plenty of time to plan!) I thought about Charleston, SC (and making a day trip to Savannah, GA to go to The Lady & Sons!), but Charleston in the July heat does NOT sound fun. Today I've been researching the Outer Banks. Obviously, growing up in NC, the OBX holds a special place in my heart. Dan's never been there and I'd looooove to show it off to him. Plus, there's tons of stuff to do and historic sites to visit!
Even though we're not beachy people, I'm thinking this could be a winner. I'd take Nags Head or Kill Devil Hills over Cancun or Hawaii any day...

I think a trip to OBX would be awesome. You also might want to consider Pawley's Island. We used to have supporters out there and it's so quiet and lovely. However, there's not that much sightseeing.
