Love is the coal that makes this train roll, let me be your everlasting light

Everybody needs a little Black Keys once in a while. Their newest CD, Brothers, is really good to listen to on a summer drive with the windows down. And, obviously, the music should be turned up ridiculously loud.

I think I mentioned that I bought a new purse with my "treat money" that was allotted me? (Dan bought some much-needed golf shoes.) My purse turned out to be about $40 cheaper than I thought, which left me with yes, $40 WHOLE more dollars at my disposal. I was overwhelmed with options. Last night Dan went golfing with one of his friends and the mall was my palyground. What was intended to be a "quick trip" last about three hours. As I was walking back to my car, I found myself massaging my lower back and thinking about how heavy my Bath & Body Works bag was (which had naught but two small wallflower refills in it). I'm NOT cut out to be a shopper. ANYWHO, I snagged three neck wraps (which Dan mercilessly and unfashionably refers to as merely "scares"), seven (yes, SEVEN!) new pairs of earrings and my oh-so heavy goodies from B&BW. Jackpot. Everything was on sale, my friends. It was glorious.

I've discovered some horrifying news. Chocolate leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Specifically right now, M&M's. The little devil candies!

Dan called me this morning at work to tell me that our traditional 4th of July parade in Dorr has been cancelled this year! Saturday night though, we may still go to Grandma Marker's cottage on the lake to watch fireworks and eat traditional summer-y foods. I'm hoping to get some sun...but seeing's I've been to the gym ONCE this week and have been eating like a fatty...that may not bode well. Especially in a Dan's stick-thin family :(

I'm reading Twilight and I literally can't stop. I was thinking about quitting my job today to go home and read. A-psyche! I'm the world's slowest reader and since Tuesday night I've read 253 pages. I'm embarrassingly anxious to finish each book so I can watch the movies.

Yesterday I had a really good reading in Streams In The Desert, but I left it at home! But my Bible reading (Philippians 2) was really good, especially coupled with the study notes.

Bear with the typing...there are pictures at the end of this post!

Philippians 2:5-11 "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Commentary:
This passage on the humility of Christ is the high mark of the epistle. Unlike the informal, conversational style of the rest of the letter, verses 5-11 are highly polished. It is also noteworthy in that they convey in a few verses Paul's conception of the uniqueness of the person and work of Christ. Paul's point is that the disposition, the temper, of church members ought always to be that of Christ's.

The kenosis (emptying) of Christ during his incarnation does not mean that he surrendered any attributes of deity, but that He took on the limitations of humanity. This involved a veiling of his preincarnate glory and the nonuse of some of His divine prerogatives during the time he was on earth. Very nature. The same word as in verse 6. He was completely God and truly man. To deny either the deity or humanity of Christ requires denying the other.

Good stuff.

Last night I took a few pictures of my pride-and-glory fridge to send to my sisters and my mom. i re-did the pictures when we got a new fridge and wanted to show them! I love getting quick bouts of encouragement when I'm bustling about in the kitchen. Hence...the quotes.
