Quick Update...

I think my lack of blogging is a mix of busy-ness and laziness. I'm not THAT busy (summer's winding down!...only three more events until our Labor Day Fall of Fun kickoff!), but I AM that lazy. So, to make this a non-novel and easily readable, here's quick update in bullet form (oh, how I love the organizational bullets...)

- On Sunday I finally found an awesome homemade bread recipe that I love. Does anyone know if I can substitute half the white flour for wheat flour and have it still turn out okay? It's PERFECT for toast, and this weekend I may test it out with french toast. Just the thought makes me salivate.

- Dan is headed for some big changes at work. Positive changes, but in true Heidi form, change makes me excited and nervous at the same time. Always has, always will. Pessimist, look-for-the-worst Heidi will always exist. She's shrinking, but she's still there. So, I'm praying for Dan - for a smooth transition and a brain like a freaking sponge to soak up knowledge!

- I went for my "annual" (last exam was in 2009) eye exam last Monday. Slight astigmatism. Awesome. I got contacts to help correct it, but, go figure, that slightly hinders my computer-vision. The eye doctor said that problem can be corrected by wearing +1.0 READING GLASSES with my contacts while I'm at my computer. Folks, I didn't expect reading glasses until my mid-40's. Why wasn't I warned about this?

- I'm so close to my Weight Watchers goal that I can taste it. (Ha! No pun intended.) But the last 3 - 4lbs. just seem to be sticking to me!! (Plus, I'm pretty sure that because I'm so close to my goal, I've grown slightly complacent and it's slowed my progress.) 4 lbs. to go until my goal of Wedding Weight! (P.S. after this experience, I will be a life. long. Weight Watchers advocate. I LOVE IT.)

- We decided to do something of an "open house" of our humble abode in late September, as our extended family members and close family friends seem to be pretty darn curious about what we've been working on house-wise for the past 3/4 of a year. This is motivation for us to actually furnish the loft.

The loft

We're going to make it a reading nook - get a cozy chair in the corner (bottom left corner of the picture), a side table & lamp beside it, and Dan will build a bookshelf to go along the back wall. He's ultra handy-dandy in the furniture making, as seen below by the end tables he made us :)

- This weekend we have all of Dan's (and mine, too!) out-of-town friends coming to visit. 9 adults and one tot under the same roof. This should be overwhelming and interesting :) Over a surprise lunch at Q'doba (love), Dan pointed out that this group has someone from every stage of adult life: Married with a child, married and pregnant, married without children (us, and lovin' it!), dating, single. Yep, I think we have the gamut covered, there.

To close out, here are a few pics of Dan's dad's birthday celebration at The Grill House. It's an awesome (and expensive!) steak house. It used to be an old farm house that's been transformed into a restaurant. You get to go into the kitchen (it's like a normal house-sized kitchen...not a professional, restaurant kitchen), pick out your own cut of meat, then grill it yourself on a MASSIVE grill top...along with the best garlic bread I've ever had.

Dan's dad, Dan and me grilling. (The grill top is 700 degrees...I was dying!)

Aw...me and bip :)
