For the last couple of years (?...time goes so fast now-a-days) me and Dan have been really into this band called The Gaslight Anthem. They're kind of unusual for us...a little punky and kind of...younger than our usual demographic as far as fan base. But for the longest time, we'd been DYING to see them in concert. Well, lo and behold, they announced a stop in Grand Rapids! They were going to be playing at this little venue called the Orbit Room. So of course, we immediately bought tickets. It wasn't until after we purchased our tickets that we found out that they were just opening for a band that we don't care for. Oh well...we figured we'd just go see them as openers and then leave. Oh - and this concert was on September 17th, a Monday night.
But wait! TWIST!
A few weeks after we bought our tickets, Gaslight Anthem announced that they were doing their own show in Detroit at this little standing room only venue called St. Andrew's Hall. What were we to do?! This show in Detroit would obviously be better/longer because they weren't just opening - it was an entire evening of just Gaslight doing their own stuff. Hmph.
So obviously, we bought tickets. So now we had tickets to see them on Friday, September 14th and Monday, September 17th. Sheeeeeeeeesh.
St. Andrew's Hall was, by far, the better show. Unfortunately, the venue didn't have a.c. and this was before the fall chill started settling in. And to top it off, this was our first ever (and last ever) general admission show. It was okay at the beginning, but towards the end my back was KILLING me, and Iiiiiiiiiiii wasn't a fan of sweaty people bumping up against me. But all-in-all, both shows were great and we're SO glad we had a chance to see Gaslight Anthem before they hit it really big and start playing huge arenas (which they probably will because they're that good).
